Ho Sung Cho, Ph.D.

Dr. Cho has over 15 years of experience in recombinant protein expression, purification, modification, and analysis. Prior to joining Ambrx, he served as the Associate Director of Protein Chemistry at Xencor where he modernized the department’s capabilities in high throughput protein expression and purification, and developed a strategy for protein PEGylation applied to the first clinical candidate. Prior to Xencor, Dr. Cho was at Exelixis where he was the Team Leader responsible for all internal protein needs for HTP screening and structural biology. Prior to joining industry, Dr. Cho was a staff scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Labs where he worked on the structural genomics project, applying NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography to determine structures of proteins at atomic resolution. In addition to his interest in proteins, Dr. Cho has a strong affinity for synthetic chemistry as he began his scientific career as a medicinal chemist in the Oncology Department at Burroughs Wellcome, RTP.
